Questions regarding Athlon 64.

I'm looking to pick up a new notebook later in the week, and have targeted a nice looking HP Pavillion zv5000z w/Athlon 64 3200+ at just around $1100.

I did some searching on previous posts in this forum (which was very helpful), but I still have some reservations about power consumption. Supposedly the Athlon 64 processors (mobile and non-mobile) come with PowerNow! or Quiet'n'Cool (one or the other) which will alter CPU clock speeds (as low as 800 Mhz I'm told) to maximize battery life and what not. But does anyone know, from experience, if it's really effective? Some reviews I've read had mentioned that early revisions weren't very effective or that bugs in Quiet'n'Cool would cause the CPU to not always ramp up when it was supposed to.
