Playing imports & using PS dance pad on DC?

My quick search of the internet shows that the easiest way to play imports on the dreamcast is using the GameShark DC-X. Is there an easier way? Does anyone know if the two japanese DDR games actually have the lock-outs?

Is there a schematic somewhere for making a converter so I can use a playstation dance mat with the dreamcast?

Yeah, but that would defeat the fun of making it myself. And cost me 20$.
