Rabbit

English translation patch for the fighting game "Rabbit" on the Sega Saturn.

"Rabbit" is a 2D fighting game with cartoonish and colorful graphics. The game features eight playable characters: Wu-ling (rabbit), Tian-ren (hawk), Egith (ox), Hou-en (wolf), Ja-koh (snake), Yu-lan (fox), Rex (tiger), and Eddy (wild boar). Each character has a special animal spirit that aids them during combat, accompanied by a "BEAST" meter indicating when the player can use each unique special attack.

Once the player has chosen their hero, they must defeat all eight opponents, including the final boss Zao-long.

The latest version of this patch is 1.0.

Patching Instructions

The SSP file shipped with this patch is for use with Sega Saturn Patcher version 1.95 or newer. While the Redump version of the game was used as the source disc image during development and testing, Sega Saturn Patcher is a flexible utility that accepts multiple disc image formats as input.

After launching the utility, follow the steps below to apply the English translation patch.

  1. Click "Select Saturn Game" at the top of the window.
  2. Click "CD Image", then navigate to the location of your original source disc image and click "Open" at the bottom right of the dialogue window.
  3. Click "+ Game Patch (SSP)" on the middle-right of the window.
  4. Navigate to the location of Rabbit (English - v1.0).ssp and then click "Open" at the bottom right of the dialogue window.
  5. Check the box at the bottom-right of the window labeled "Separate Track Files (if applicable)".
  6. Click "Patch Image" at the bottom-right of the window and then navigate to the target folder where patched disc image should be stored.
    • MODE, Satiator, and Fenrir users should select "CUE/BIN" under the "Save as type" dropdown.
    • Rhea/Phoebe users should select "CCD/IMG" under the "Save as type" dropdown.
    • Users burning to CD-R should select "CUE/BIN" under the "Save as type" dropdown, as this format is universally compatible with all popular burning software.
    • Emulator users should select "CUE/BIN" under the "Save as type" dropdown, as this format is universally compatible with all popular emulators.
  7. Once patching is complete, click "X" at the top-right of the window.

Cheat Mode

In "Rabbit" there exists numerous unlockable options only accessible to players after beating the game one or more times (depending on the option). As part of this English translation patch, these supplemental options have been enabled by default.

Additionally, the behavior of one of these extra options ("DAMAGE") has been modified. Originally, setting "DAMAGE" to "OFF" made both player one and two invincible. However, players of this patch will now find that turning this setting to "OFF" provides unlimited health for player one only.

This is particularly useful for those who want to experience each of the eight characters' end-of-game cutscene events without the effort of defeating every opponent along the way.
